Just a quick note about my cool new mask.
My mom went with a bunch of her friends for a two-week road trip to New Orleans. She bought me a Mardi Gras mask in the French Quarter. The black bits are the ribbon ties. I think they make the mask look pleasantly evil.
I have dutifully hung it on my wall with the rest of my masks.

The green one on the right, I made in high school in art class. He’s a gargoyle. The brown one on the left was a gift from my friend, Margaret, from one of her trips. I can’t remember it’s origin at the moment, and I can’t take it down to check because it’s on there pretty securely. I don’t want a random passing transport to knock anything down.
The little blue one, below right, was another gift from Margaret when she went to Jamaica. One of the wooden masks was from her, too, but it’s been so long ago now, I can’t remember which (I think it’s the singer) or where it came from 😦

I like masks. It’s kind of a Hero with a Thousand Faces/Jungian archetypes thing. Also, shamanism.

I collect coins from our pre-decimal past but for no other reason than the sheer intricacy and beauty of their design which went out the window when decimalisation walked in. Your masks are fantastic Melanie especially your gargoyle.

I don’t think I could walk by the masks without closing my eyes. I collect art that features females, for some odd reason (which I have to mull on) half have their back to the viewer. The other item I collect is christmas ornaments from other countries and states.

I do see them very like gargoyles, as things intended to ward off evil. They’re like guardians. It’s also why I don’t mind them looking a bit creepy. All the better to keep the nightmares at bay 🙂

Love your masks. I collect clowns. I love that they represent all the emotions; some sad, some happy, some tearful, etc. They inspire me in my writing. My office is littered with clowns hanging from the ceiling, in baskets, on shelves and at times my office is a guest bedroom. I’ve been surprised to find out how many people hate clowns and are afraid of them. Part of my prep is to take the big ones and put them away when I know company is coming LOL.

It is a little weird how many people are afraid of clowns. I wonder if it has anything to do with all those 80s horror movies? Poltergeist, Chuckie, etc. In any case, I’m glad they serve as your muses, June.
